Eight Keys of the Moon

The Eight Keys of the Moon, also called the Eight Keys of Seluné, were a set of magically-enchanted keys created in the early Epoch of Undine. Magically tethered to the Ring of Seluné, the keys were powerful magic items with various effects.

• When inserted into a lock or touched to an arcane lock, the Waning Crescent Key cast the spell knock.
• When inserted into a lock or touched to an closeable object, the Waxing Crescent Key cast the spell arcane lock.
• The Half Moon Key held the properties of both the Crescent Moon keys.
• After speaking the code phrase Seluné bind you in elvish, the Waning Gibbous Key cast the spell imprisonment, locking a being in massive chains with a silvery gibbous-shaped padlock.
• After speaking the code phrase Seluné sees you in elvish, the Waxing Gibbous Key cast the spell dispel magic at 9th level.
• When touched to any natural body of water, the Full Moon Key cast the spell control water.
• When held in one's hand and after speaking the code phrase Seluné shield you in elvish, the New Moon Key cast the spell greater invisibility.
• When held outstretched as if to insert into an invisible lock, the Eclipse Key cast the spell darkness, with one edge of the sphere of magical darkness touching the end of the key.

All keys disintegrated upon use, reappearing on the Ring of Selune, an eight-inch ring of silvery metal after the next corresponding moon phase had concluded. For example, if a person used the Waning Crescent Key to open a locked chest, the key would disintegrate, reforming on the Ring the night after the next waning crescent in the location of the Ring (not the key).
