Castian pocket

Castian pockets were an arcane phenomenon prevalent along the ley lines of Echelon. Named after the cartographer Thandabantu Castia, they were characterized as magical "holes" which opened up in sync with another, identical "hole" on the exact opposite side of the ley line on which they formed. Anything that fell into a Castian pocket instantly came out of its counterpart.

Though rare, Castian pockets were enough of a hazard that the idea of crossing a ley line, especially the powerful Equatorial, gave travelers and sailors pause. They appeared at random, and it was only after the Castian Dowser was invented that predicting them became possible.

Castian pockets were unsuitable as a method of reliable travel, as they could not be opened, closed, or affected by any known means.
