The Pyramid of Death was the nickname given to the tomb of Ankhenamef, the Last Pharaoh.

History

The pyramid was originally built as an elaborate sarcophagus to house the body of Ankhenamef. When Mordenkainen defeated the Last Pharaoh's armies, the arch-wizard sealed away Ankhenamef in his own tomb. Mordenkainen used the Pharaoh's own structure as a prison for his soul, and it held the Pharaoh for over 3,000 years. He gave the tomb the nickname "Pyramid of Death" to ward off would-be looters and adventurers, and warded the pyramid with traps to prevent anyone from breaking his spell. He instructed the Vorohanyan elves to keep watch over the Pyramid.

In early 599 LA, Mordenkainen's imprisonment spell was wearing off, and Ankhenamef was due to return to the world. Fortunately, the elves of Vorohanya had kept their promise to guard the tomb, and recruited several adventuring groups to enter the tomb and destroy Ankhenamef's sarcophagus. Only one succeeded, and Ankhenamef was destroyed and his tomb plundered.
