Humans were a race of sentient beings created by Pelor, Erathis, and Melora. They, along with halflings, were sometimes considered the third of the First Races. Humans were the most numerous race on the planet, with their dominant genes often spreading even in pairings with other races.

Genetic Compatibility

Humans could produce offspring with elves, orcs, dwarves, tieflings, and halflings. Children born as a result of these pairings were generally considered human, as the human traits were most pronounced in the offspring. They did often have characteristics of the non-human parent; however, in the case of a pairing with an elf, the child would be a half-elf.

There were no known children born to human pairings with tabaxi, gith, dragonborn, or "monstrous" races.

Human Ethnic Groups

There were at least 8 different ethnic groups of humans on Echelon:

Aganid

The Aganid people were intelligent, resourceful humans who originated on the Mainland continent of Pitharas. They hailed from the Red Desert, and were often called "Desertdwellers" by themselves and others. Many preferred the term "Aganid", however, and a nation with the same name rose up sometime in the mid-Light Age. Not all so-called desertdwellers were Aganid, as well, further complicating matters.

The Aganid were usually quite tall and robust-looking, with very dark skin, hair, and eyes. They usually favored warmer climates, but could be found anywhere on Echelon.

Chondathans

Chondathans were found in great numbers in the Stardragon Sea and northern Mainland. They were often hardy, risk-taking folk, who prided themselves on their toughness and codes of honor. Many Chondathans, especially those in the nation of Frostholme, followed a tradition called the Blood Code. The Blood Code was similar to the Moradindrian in that it contained an unwritten philosophy of honor, debt, and valor.

Chondathans were usually pale-skinned, with blond or brown hair. They were often somewhat taller than other humans, and often had green or blue eyes. Generally slender and well-built, these humans tended to favor colder climates.

Dalriatans

Dalriatan humans were a small ethnic group, localized primarily on the Almanthan continent. Their ethnic heritage was sometimes difficult to trace, as records from the time before the Glavian Empire were exceedingly rare. After the rediscovery of many Almanthan histories at the beginning of the Epoch of Undine, Dalriatan humans began to rediscover their clan heritage. Since the Dalriatans had lost so much of their history, the term became loosely used to describe any resident or cultural participant in the cultures around Lochhold, regardless of race.

Dalriatan humans were often very similar to Chondathans in appearance, usually having fair skin and eyes. They were somewhat shorter than Chondathans.

Khufiri

Khufiri probably originated in the Stardragon Sea. Khufiri were generally shrewd traders and merchants, with an eye for treasure and adventure. They had skin ranging from light tan to a deep olive, and often had black or dark brown hair. They often thrived in warm, tropical climates. Many khufiri humans had a penchant for sailing.

During the Light Age, a significant majority of khufiri humans formed the Crescent Empire on the island of Khufir.

Shou

The Shou were a group of small humans with yellow-bronze skin, black hair, and broad features. Both men and women usually wore their hair long, and were notably very proud of facial hair. Shou men would often shave their head down to the skin in certain places, leaving hair (usually quite long) only on the crown or back of the head.

The Shou people were accomplished horse riders and sailors, and had many small settlements and fiefs in the Stygian Lands.
