Zarum

The zarum were a race of beings created by Moradin, Pelor, Avandra, and Bahamut, to be guardians of lore, peace, and balance among the ancient races. They were given magic as a tool to assist in those pursuits, but rebelled against the gods alongside the human kingdom of Bael Turath. The zarum race was significantly punished after their defeat, and stripped of all magical capability by Ioun.

The zarum eventually evolved into two ethnic groups, the githyanki and githzerai, after the Sealing of Echelon.
