It was historically home to the mighty and long-lasting Glavian Empire, and the continent became so associated with the nation that the Empire and the landmass became synonymous during the Middle Era. This genericization in nomenclature was prevalent in the Middle Era, and nearly absolute in the Dark and Light Ages.
