The Upper Planes were a collective of realms of existence beyond the mortal Material Plane. The Upper Planes, along with their counterparts in the Lower Planes, were considered part of the Outer spheres of existence.
Although many distinct realms existed, the Upper Planes were sometimes referred to in the singular by mortals as "heaven" or "the afterlife".
