The arch-wizard Mordenkainen accomplished many incredible feats throughout his lifetime, but none as comprehensive and long-lasting as what came to be known as his Final Legacy. Among the accomplishments of his Final Legacy were the destruction of the Desert Pharaohs, assisting in the establishment of a human kingdom in the northeast, and the creation of the Vault of the Ancients. The Final Legacy was also the title of Mordenkainen's spellbook and comprehensive treatises on magic; the term was often used to refer to both the accomplishments and the book itself.

Contents of Mordenkainen's Final Legacy

The spellbook used by Mordenkainen contained much of his knowledge and recorded theories, and, much like the Maximillian armor to a warrior, was considered the ultimate prize for a wizard. It was a magically-bound tome with infinite pages, and could only be opened, navigated, and read by a wizard.

Besides listing over a hundred discrete spells and enchantments, the tome was also a commentary on myriad topics:

The Transmutation Theory

Mordenkainen believed that the school of magic he named Transmutation was the key to achieving the power of the gods. By manipulating the raw energies beyond the Weave, he theorized that one could eventually create ex nihilo as the gods had done in primeval times. This theory was eventually put to the test in the second millennium of the Light Age, and later at the end of that era.

Mordenkainen's equation

The arch-wizard wrote a principle of arcane calculus which predicted constructions in the Weave of magic. These constructions, later called "ley lines", were forces of powerful magical energy binding the planet together. Mordenkainen used this equation to calculate a number of important features of Echelon, including the approximate circumference of the planet, the height of the Column, and the theoretical framework of chronomancy.

Mordenkainen's equation was also used by the Voices to calculate the waxing and waning of the aurora susurro and the eventual collapse of the Whispering Timeline.
