Chronomancy

Chronomancy, also known as time magic, was an anomalous power theorized by the arch-wizard Mordenkainen in the Ancient World and finally realized millennia later by the arch-wizard Alastaire Breowan. It was predicted by the goddess Ioun in the Shattered Prophecy and destroyed by the Voices when they collapsed the Whispering Timeline, ending the Prophecy and removing chronomancy from the Planes through the Melding.

The First Wish

Sometimes referenced as "the result of the first wish", time magic nearly unraveled the Weave and reality itself. The paradoxes resulting from the use of the power were so devastating that only its removal after the Melding allowed reality to continue.

"I wish for the power to bring my wife and child, Tinuviel and Yukko, dead before their time, back into the world." -The First Wish, spoken by arch-wizard Alastaire Breowan

The origins of chronomancy were rooted in the ultimate magic unlocked by Determined hero Alastaire Breowan. After the Ultima War and the arrival of the Null, Alastaire left the safe confines of the city of Sirocco and all he had known and fought for. He befriended the brass dragon Nagendrus in the western wastelands, and spent decades studying magic with his mentor and confidant there. The studies of Nagendrus and Alastaire were directed toward one aim; to find a power strong enough to reunite Alastaire and his deceased family. For clinical and calculating Nagendrus, it was a challenge unlike any other. For Alastaire, however, the idea of reversing Tinuviel and Yuuko's deaths grew from a grief-plagued obsession to an all-consuming neurosis.

After nearly a century of study and practice, Alastaire unlocked the secret of the wish via Mordenkainen's equation. His wish was said to be so powerful that it broke through the Null's antimagic field. The power was revealed to Alastaire-- time magic. Alastaire spent his twilight decades writing the Gnomon Grimoire. It was as the ink dried on the final page in the 2nd century DA that Alastaire was ripped from time itself; the Shattered Prophecy had occurred, and the timelines emerged.
