Shattered Prophecy

The Shattered Prophecy was a prediction that the use of chronomancy would result in the chaotic fragmentation of time, creating parallel universes. It was less of a "prophecy" in the traditional sense and more of a statistical certainty, as observed by the Temporal Medians in the Temporal Plane.

Multiple Timelines

There were no fewer than seven distinct timelines that emerged as a result of significant breaks in the Median Timeline:

• The Red Timeline, an anomaly when the Grand Cross did not win the Ultima War
• The Blue Timeline, an anomaly when the Sovereign Seven successfully cast the Millennial Spell
• Altaya's Loop, a complex anomaly within the Blue Timeline in which Kithanya Maruk went back in time
• The Green Timeline, an anomaly when Keela the Green won the Keelan War
• The Black Timeline, an anomaly when Morovec the illithid successfully enslaved the entire Mainland during the Dark Age
• The Steel Timeline, an anomaly when the nation of Thaedran Sidereal eventually destroyed the world in nuclear fire
• The Whispering Timeline, a continually-resetting anomaly when the Spirit of Time attempted to repair the broken timelines

Relationship to Wish

When the goddess Ioun allowed magic to enter the Material Plane, she predicted some dangerous effects of the power, especially the reality-bending wish. One such prediction involved the manipulation of time:

"Truly I say, as the mortal Races are given [magic], the fierce ends of all things may be achieved. When it is said, 'each thing in each season', the wisest know the center only holds if things are things and seasons are seasons. One may be curbed by will and force, behold, but the other will shatter waiting and linearity. There is now no power beyond them, even the power of the gods." (Prophecies, ch. IX)
