Corellon Larethian was an Imminent Celestial and patron lord of elves.

History

Corellon was one of two gods to have seriously wounded a Prime Evil (the other being Kord). He fought the orc god Gruumsh to a standstill, taking out his eye during the Dawn War-- though most orcs adamantly claimed this to be untrue. His finesse and battle prowess was outstanding even among gods like Bahamut and Kord, but Corellon’s true love was creativity.

It was this preoccupation with creativity that got him into trouble. For reasons unknown to mortals, Corellon was not tapped to be one of the Creative Celestials, despite his penchant for innovation and artistry. When he was injured in the battle with Gruumsh, it was said that his blood was taken by his wife Sehanine Moonbow, and mixed with her tears to create the first elves. He allowed the formation of the race to continue, but the elves were doomed to be as the savage orcs. Avandra—who some said was a sister to Corellon—took pity on the creations, and gave them a soul.

Dogma and Followers

The lord of elves, Corellon delighted in beauty, art, and music. In non-elven circles, he was most often associated with artistry. He was the primary deity and head of the Seldarine pantheon. As such, he played a central role in elven society. Whereas a human or halfling might pray to Corellon for guidance on an artistic endeavor, an elf would consult Corellon’s teachings on nearly every aspect of daily life.
