The Thaedran Imperium was a nation that existed during the Light Age. They were often colloquially referred to as the Thaedran Skylords, and were responsible for the establishment of the Air Rules.

Society and Culture

A mysterious and dangerous nation to outsiders, the Imperium became increasingly isolationist as time went on. A strict magocracy, their entire existence was predicated on the magical flight and maintenance of their city-sized dreadnoughts, which were theorized to be under the effects of massive reverse gravity fields.

Though few persons outside of the Imperium survived encounters with the xenophobic nation, there were tales of incredible magical flying machines and powerful spellcasters threatening air travel throughout the world. Thus, aerial travel during the Imperium's height was regarded as a dangerous gamble; violating the Air Rules was clear grounds for immediate lethal reprisal from the Skylords.

History

The Thaedran Imperium rose to prominence after the Arlanestran Territories became increasingly fearful about the use of magic in its borders. The dangers of magic were evident in the Logos Vortex, a weapon of mass destruction used in the civil war resulting in Arlanestra's foundation. As the leaders of the Territories continued to limit or control arcane knowledge, more and more hedge wizards and students of magic were pushed to the fringes of Arlanestran society.

Eventually, the Arcana Regulation Bureau was founded, and practitioners of magic were further ostracized or even outright branded as criminals. The Thaedran Skylords came as a result of three wizard towers and their surrounding lands torn from the earth in defiance. The alliance that would later become the Imperium was born.
